Supplies for your clarinet or sax
- Reeds - start with a #2 and increase to 2.5 or 3 as your embouchure
develops. Always have at least 2 in play and 2 to break in. Don't
be caught without a 'broken-in' reed on hand!
- Reed Guard - these plastic or metal holders can store 2-4 reeds
safely and flat to prevent warping.
- Cork Grease - as the name implies, this is applied to all cork
surfaces. Do not apply to the neck joint on a saxophone! If the neck
joint is not connecting smoothly, clean it with a cotton cloth.
- Cleaning Swabs - for clarinet, one will suffice. for the sax, get
one for the body and one for the neck.
- Cotton Cloth - use for cleaning out the mouthpiece after every
use. Avoid buildup of 'gunk', aka the dried-up moisture left after
playing and bacteria that can grow in such an environment.
- Neck Strap for sax - look for a wide, spongy material for optimum
comfort. An alternative is the chest strap. It spreads the weight
over your back rather than your neck. Clarinet players may also want
to use a neck strap. Try the Neotech C.E.O. neck strap. C.E.O. means
clarinet, english horn, oboe.
- Pencil - for making notes on your music. Make sure it has a good
eraser.
